One of Fenland’s oldest hotels is closed while it undergoes a major £300,000 refurbishment.
Ye Olde Griffin Hotel on March High Street has been shut since Monday so all the hotel rooms can be redecorated, an extra en-suite double room created and the bar and dining areas refreshed with new décor and furniture.
The 16th century Grade II listed hotel’s outside signage and seating are also being replaced.
The refurbishment will create seven jobs including kitchen, bar and hotel roles.
General manager Marina Oldale said: “Our new owners Stonegate Pub Company were quick to recognise what a gem Ye Olde Griffin is and are investing in the business again so that it remains in excellent condition.
“In terms of our pub offer we are extending our dance floor and installing a state of the art audio system to appeal to our late night party clientele.”
Marina and Lee Oldale will be hosting a reception to celebrate the re-opening on Friday, July 25.
Doors open for invited guests and local businesses from 5pm for a complimentary reception before Ye Olde Griffin officially opens at 7pm.
Welcoming guests will be a stiltwalkers, flame-throwers and a magician, with the evening hosted by resident DJ Ian.
