The year Great Britain had three kings was brought to life at this month’s meeting of the March Society.
Retired music teacher John Shaw gave a presentation about 1936, which had kings George V, Edward Vlll and George Vl.
The only other time there have been three monarchs in a single year was 1066.
Mr Shaw created a wall-to-wall display of his vast collection of documents, photos, currency, postcards, stamps and other memorabilia associated with March during 1936.
It included a copy of March’s first telegram, which was sent to King Edward Vlll by staff at March Post Office.
The next event of The March Society, on Wednesday, October 8 at 7pm in March Library, will feature a talk by John Elworthy, editor of The Cambs Times, the Wisbech Standard and the Ely Standard, entitled Life and Times.
Members £2, non-members £3, including tea, coffee and biscuits.
