Upwell resident Sara Rodgers is counting the cost after Friday night’s torrential rain left her home flooded with six inches of water.
Carpets and furniture were ruined as the water seeped into her semi-detached home in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ms Rodgers (48), a local government officer, returned home on Friday evening to see water lapping up to her front door, but it was the continuing torrential rain overnight that did the real damage.
A neighbour raised the alarm after he spotted the water had risen to flood the ground floor and Ms Rodgers was awoken at around 4.30am by blue flashing lights.
“You can’t describe how distressing it is,” said Ms Rogers, who has been staying with a friend while her house is uninhabitable. “That sudden realisation that everything is gone.”
Firefighters were not able to pump water from her home, which was one of several flooded in the village, initially as the surrounding area was flooded and there was nowhere for the water to go.
They made three trips to her property, and were able to clear the water early on Saturday evening.
