THREE Fenland schools are gearing up for the finals of a county-wide mathematics challenge to be held next Wednesday.

Youngsters from Murrow Primary School, Peckover Primary School in Wisbech and Westwood Primary School in March, will battle it out against 17 other primary schools across the county.

Aim of the annual maths challenge is to provide worthwhile and enjoyable events to raise the profile of mathematics and give children an opportunity to engage in some interesting problems and puzzles.

Schools across the county are each year invited to enter teams of four from Year 5. This year, 98 Cambridgeshire schools entered, with teams taking part in eleven heats in primary schools around the county.

The final takes place in the new AirSpace hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. It will consist of three rounds of questions set in different parts of the hangar, followed by a final round for the highest scoring teams that will be sited alongside Concorde and beneath the wing of an Avro York aircraft.
