Six cadets from 272 (Wisbech) Squadron Air Cadets have been learning skills that could prove vital in a lifesaving situation.

The Heartstart course teaches basic emergency life support skills covering choking, serious bleeding, heart attacks and dealing with an unconscious casualty.

Cadets Kobe Huggins Driver, Joshua Betts, Mathew Blackburn, Kaya Kilby, Emanuel Malaquias and Bartek Ziabka successfully completed the course under the direction of civilian instructor Reg Johnson, one of three a qualified Heartstart instructors on squadron.

Developed by the British Heart Foundation the course is offered to all cadets within their first year of joining the squadron. The cadets can then go on to further their first aid qualifications by undertaking a Youth First Aid course.

The cadets were presented with their course certificates by the Commanding Officer of 272, Flight Lieutenant Colin Arnold RAFVR(T).
