Budding bookworms from a school in March have received a boost in the form of a £1,000 donation from Tesco.

Westwood Junior School, on Maple Grove, has received the donation from the supermarket giants as part of the company’s pledge to distribute money made from the sale of 5p carrier bags.

The £1,000 will go towards new books for the school’s library, and assistant head teacher, Nia Talbot, believes the funds will go a long way in helping the school’s pupils’ progress.

She said: “The children are really excited about getting the new books. They love reading, and the money coming in means they’ll have more of a choice when it comes to picking what to read.

“We’ve been doing a lot of work with the pupils, helping them choose their favourite authors, and we hope that the shelves in the library will be full of books for the children to choose from.”
