LIVING Sport held the second Youth Games Plus event this month. It proved to be successful day with more than 350 participants competing at St Ivo Leisure Centre and outdoor complex.
The Youth Games brings together young people with a range of disabilities. Chris Parker, Fenland District Council's sports development community basketball coach stepped in to help train the Meadowgate School entrants and prepare them for the games.
He also organised and led the basketball competition on the day, as well as being on hand during to help Meadowgate competitors and staff.
Charlotte Edwards, the England women's Cricket Captain who was the special guest at the games, said: "I was thrilled to be invited to this great event and really enjoyed a full day of sporting competition."
Twelve school in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough areas participated in the games. There was a mixture of activities put on through out the day ranging from athletics and basketball to tag rugby.
Meadowgate School, representing Fenland, took part in the basketball, cricket and athletics. All participants from Meadowgate enjoyed the day and had a lot of fun taking part in the games.
Councillor Steve Garratt, portfolio holder for young people and leisure, said: "We are particularly keen to encourage young people with disabilities to take part in sporting activity and I am delighted that council staff were able to get involved with Meadowgate School in helping them prepare for this event.
