MANEA Angling Club were busy at the weekend, fishing a match on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's pairs match at Welches Dam, on the Old Bedford, was won by Ian Warby and Steve Newell, while Mark Dunham took the individual honours with two tench for 5lb.

Newell also won Sunday's match on the Sixteen Foot with 3lb of small roach. The club returns to the Sixteen Foot, at Stonea, on Sunday. The draw is at 7am.

The March club fished the Old Nene, at Creek Cottage, on Sunday and I won with 21lb of skimmer bream to 1.5lb and a 3lb tench. All the fish were caught on a red maggot fished hard on the bottom using a pole.

March angler Rob Graves won Sunday's open match at Boston with 25lb 8oz of bream and skimmers. There was also a team match and the March club finished fourth out of 10. Home team Boston took top spot.

The Twenty Foot, at Shepperson Bridge, has been doing well. Paul Harvey fished a night session last Friday and landed 80lb of tench and bream. The following day, Shaun Strachan netted 20lb of roach using hemp as hook bait.

The Reed Fen section of the Old Nene is producing plenty of bream and tench and the best spot seems to be near the pumping station.

Another area worth trying is the 10-mile section of the Great Ouse, particularly opposite the Wissey outfall or near the new bridge, where roach to 1.5lb have been hooked on tares or boiled wheat fished over hemp.

On the lakes, Fields End Water takes some beating, both on the Match Lake and the Old Lake.

Pete Goodman netted 86lb to top the list in Saturday's open. The following day, Leverington Angling Club found the fish still feeding and Colin Varney won with 100lb.

The senior citizens were fishing on Tuesday and carp ace Dave Pearce senior won with 98lb.

March and District Angling Association will host a senior citizens' match on the Pool, at Fields End Water, on Tuesday. The draw is at 11am with fishing from noon-4pm.

Upwell's Mac Campbell won Saturday's match at Decoy with a net of 42lb.

Mill View AC visited Head Fen Lake, near Little Downham, and Ian Crawford won with 50lb. Mill View will be back at Decoy on Sunday. The draw is at 8.30am with fishing from 10am-4pm.

March angler Steve Smalley fished the High Flyer Lake, at Ely, for the first time and came second with 110lb. Dave Pearce junior topped the list with 167lb.

The Decoy Open, on Saturday, was won by Rob Chamberlain on the Six Island Lake, with 52lb.

There were two open matches on Sunday and Robert Edmuson won on Oak Lake with 132lb while Jon Wincup headed the field on Yew Lake with 176lb.

Devlin Bates won the March Juniors match last week. A nice tench helped to push his net to 5lb.

A special mention must go to five-year-old Ben Darrington, who has finished in the top three for the past two weeks.

Finally, Wimblington Angling Club will be fishing their club water on Sunday. The draw is at 7am with fishing from 8am-1pm.
