A WEEK after winning a prestigious Barclays award, Wisbech Cricket Club's Dominic Stannard has received another boost from the banking giant.

As reported in the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard last week, Dominic, 18, picked up the Barclays Spaces for Sports Local Hero Award and a cheque for £1,000, in recognition of his efforts to develop grass roots sport.

Now the bank have donated a further £750 to help Wisbech Cricket Club purchase and install a new set of outdoor nets and an artificial wicket.

Youth development officer Dominic has been instrumental in improving the facilities at the club and the unexpected windfall, which has been donated as part of the Barclays Community Investment Programme, is very welcome.

He said: "We are so grateful to Barclays for their help. This donation will make a huge impact on our young cricket players and give them more opportunities to participate in sport.

"We will be adding the money to our funds that will go towards providing a new set of three nets. We will need to raise a total of £22,000 and so far we have about £3,000.

"It was hoped that we could reach our target before the start of the season but time is quickly running out."

Anyone who would like to support Wisbech Cricket Club's fund-raising efforts can contact Dominic on 07763 879153.

The club will erect sponsors' advertising boards at the cricket ground.
