A YOUNG kart racer is hoping for a bright future on the track after winning a club championship in his first season.
Twelve-year-old Jake Swann, from Station Road, March, won the Coningsby Club's 100cc racing class, despite competing against drivers much older than himself.
Jake, pictured, began racing only two years ago and, following a second place finish in the 70cc championship last year, Jake moved up to the 100cc class and stormed to victory with a series of impressive results, including five straight wins in the final round of races.
And now, the Neale-Wade Community College student is continuing his fine performances with his new club, Wisbech and District Kart Club.
Jake's father, Kevin said: "He has really taken to the sport and has shown that he is capable of getting very good results.
"The minimum age for drivers in the 100cc class is 12 years old and there are often older teenagers and even adults competing in races."
Kevin said: "The Wisbech and District Kart Club is hugely popular and Jake will be racing on Tarmac for the first time during the winter.
"We will then get back to competing in grass races in the spring and perhaps look at moving to the 125cc class when Jake reaches 14 years-old."
He added: "We are very lucky to have received support from Tony Holmshaw, who has helped us with the engines, and we are always on the look-out for new sponsors."
Jake will receive his 100cc championship trophy at an annual presentation evening on December 2.
