ONCE again, the weather took its toll on the weekend's cricket, and the rain proved to be welcome for one team but not another.

Chatteris' first team certainly benefited from the bad weather and, despite their match on Saturday being rained off, the team clinched the CCA Junior Division One North title.

However, the rain robbed unlucky Wisbech III of the opportunity to gain promotion from West Norfolk Division Four. With their match at Narborough rained off on Saturday, the Wisbech team had to settle for a third place finish, outside the promotion spots.

In the games that survived the weather, March II were victorious in a reduced-over CCA Senior Division One match at home to Barrington on Saturday.

In difficult conditions, March's total of 105-7 from 36 overs looked far from convincing, but the contributions from openers Andrew Mills (20) and Dave Kenning (21), together with Rob Tombs (22), lower down the order, proved to be vital.

Barrington lost wickets on a regular basis as Stuart Arnold (4-14) and Chris Ringham (3-20) took advantage of the pitch and the visitors were eventually dismissed for 85 after 34.2 overs.

The only Wisbech Cricket Club game to take place at the weekend was on Sunday when Wisbech entertained Stamford in the Rutland League.

The home side got off to a solid start thanks to the efforts of James Fountain (51) and Gary Freear (30) but, once the partnership had been broken, Wisbech struggled to add significant runs to the board.

Only Dan Mason (27) and Sam Albutt (15) made it in to double figures as Wisbech limped to 156 all out.

The home side were unable to get early wickets but the Wisbech bowlers did put in a disciplined performance to frustrate Stamford.

However, the visitors eventually managed to hit the winning runs after 42.1 overs and with seven wickets intact.

Doddington kept up their good form this season with a two-wicket home win against Milton III.

Once again, the Doddington bowlers were on song and Barrie Carter (3-26), Jake Wenman (3-63) and Bob Burgess (2-38) helped restrict the visitors to 187-9 from 40 overs.

Carter then took up the challenge with the bat to hit an unbeaten 68 and with the support of Antony Bamford (37) and Clive Dove (22), Doddington eased to victory with nine overs remaining.

And Doddington continued their good work to Sunday when they recorded a 58-run victory at Warboys in the Fenland Trophy.

The visitors posted a good score of 236 thanks to a superb innings of 103 from Antony Bamford, a half century from Carter and a useful 29 from skipper Mathew Bamford.

Doddington were unable to dismiss the home side but economical bowling from James Welcher, Ivan Burgess, Mathew Bamford and Jake Wenman restricted Warboys to 178-7 from their 45 overs.
