East Men's League Division Four North WestWisbech II 1 March II 2WISBECH were the better side in the early stages of this local derby and they opened the scoring with Jon Boyall's strike from a penalty corner.It wasn't until the second half when March got back in to the game after Stuart Fox's fine finish levelled the scores.In a closely-fought match, both sides struggled to create any chances but 10 minutes from time, John Mair scored to record March's 11th consecutive victory.Rob Mitchell was the player of the match for March.March III 6 Wisbech III 3MARCH celebrated a double victory over Wisbech when March III came in to form with a fine result.Wisbech got off to a sluggish start and March raced in to a 4-0 lead after only 15 minutes thanks to a brace apiece from Adam Triggs and Ashley Welland.Wisbech did fight back in the second half but Mickey Coates' brace and another from Karle Belding were answered by Welland's hat-trick strike and James' Fountain's score that guided March to a comfortable victory.Division Two North March I 2 Cambridge University III 3MARCH went behind to an unfortunate goal when keeper Simon Coe miskicked and the ball flew in to the net.March skipper Jody Betts got March back on to level terms before the visitors broke to restore their lead.Once again, Betts scored to level the scores but a hotly disputed penalty stroke was to prove the match winner for the visitors.March tried hard to get back in to the game and fine work from James Mansfield denied any further goals for University.Division Five North WestWisbech IV 1 Peterborough Town IV 5LEAGUE leaders Peterborough proved too strong for Wisbech on Saturday.A superb goal from Howard Atkins put Wisbech on level terms at the break after the visitors had opened the scoring.But it was a different story in the second half and the visitors dominated, scoring four unanswered goals.Division Seven North WestPeterborough Town VI 2 March V 1EARLY pressure from March was rewarded with the opening goal from Simon Johnson.However, the home side turned the tables and March, were pegged back by a goal from a penalty corner.Again, March began the half well but their failure to score was punished with a second Peterborough goal.Wisbech V 1 Market Deeping III 2ONLY good defending from Joel Pullen and Tim Atkins kept a struggling Wisbech side in the game early on. A goal from Johnson put Wisbech on level terms at the break and despite dominating the second half and creating chances for Gary Freear and Dominic Stannard, the home side conceded a crucial goal.East League Division Two NorthMarch ladies I 4 Cambridge City II 4MARCH clinched their first league point since November 26 but they perhaps should have had all three points.The home side went behind to an early goal but March skipper Lauren Oakman quickly put them back on level terms.City regained the lead before the break and extended it with a third goal in the second half.Despite Cara Verlander pulling a goal back for March, the visitors would have been confident of taking the three points when they scored a fourth.However, March fought back to claim a draw thanks to Gemma Birt's goal and Lauren Oakman's second.The outstanding Katie Rodger was March's player of the match.Wisbech ladies III 2 Market Deeping ladies I 3WISBECH put in a battling performance against a good Market Deeping side.Home keeper Sarah Matthews made several important saves early on but the visitors eventually broke the deadlock.The home side netted a deserved equaliser through Sue Downing but Market Deeping struck back with two goals before the break.The second half saw Wisbech increase the pressure on their opponents but defender and player of the match Sue Atter had to be at her best to keep out several dangerous Market Deeping attacks.With the pitch beginning to freeze, the match was abandoned 20 minutes from time but Sarah Dodsworth found time to fire in Wisbech's second goal from a short corner.Second Team Cup Second roundWisbech II 1 Notts Sikh Union 3 WISBECH faced a tough task against opposition who play four leagues above them in the West Midlands League.However, Wisbech battled well and Ross Wilyman's goal put them back on level terms after Union's opener.The home side continued to press in the second half but Union broke to score two goals.
