Manager Mel Mattless wants March Town to bounce back quickly from their most disappointing day of the season.
The Hares slipped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of AFC Sudbury Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn First Division last Saturday.
It was March’s first outing for a fortnight and Mattless admitted their performance at the GER left a lot to be desired.
“We only had one player to come out of the game with any credit,” admitted the Hares chief.
“Jason Harrison covered virtually every blade of grass on the pitch, but too many of the other lads were not at the races.
“Sudbury were a young and energetic side, but we didn’t help ourselves.
“We were in and out of the game and didn’t do enough as the home team.
“I let the lads know I wasn’t at all happy with what I saw from them. We had another chat at training when the boys looked sharp.”
March fell behind after half-an-hour and squandered a glorious chance to level before the break when Jack Brand fired over from point-blank range.
Captain Max Mattless thumped a shot against a post as the Hares continued to chase a leveller in the second half.
He also missed the target with another good headed opportunity, while Brand and Toby Allen were denied by fine saves before Sudbury struck again to clinch victory late on.
Boss Mattless is now looking for a response when his side travel to Norwich United Reserves on Saturday (3pm).
They head to Norfolk without their skipper, who serves a one-match suspension, but David Jackson and Callum Young are both available again after injuries.
“We haven’t managed to win a game during September and we need to put that right,” added manager Mattless.
“We started the season very well, playing good football and being competitive in all games.
“We need to go there believing we can pick up points. To be honest, we have a good chance against most teams if playing to our potential.
“We can’t change what happened last Saturday now - that’s gone. All we can do is come out firing this weekend and move forward.”
Mattless is chasing a potential signing who can play in either defence or midfield. He is currently playing at a higher-level club in this area.
