Chatteris farmer James Sole is celebrating his latest shooting success after his shotgun skills lead him to a top 15 finish in the Shotgun World Cup.

James took a trip to Cyprus for the event, and bagged a respectable score of 118 out of 125, which landed him a place in the top 15 out of a field of over 100 participants – including a handful that will represent their nations at this summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The 38-year-old is hoping his impressive display at the world event will act as a springboard for future success.

He said: “I’m pleased with my performance, as this is the first competition of the year. I now have a strong platform to start the year, which all bodes well for the forthcoming competition that I’ll be in involved in.”

The action for the former Commonwealth Federation Championship bronze medalist didn’t stop there, as he then took part in the Cambridgeshire County Olympic Trap competition, which he sealed in style with an impressive score of 96 out of 100.

James received funding from local firm Mick George Ltd for his trip to the World Cup, and finance director for the company, Jon Stump, was proud of his efforts.

He said: “James should be proud of his achievements. It’s nice when our involvement can have a positive impact on people at a personal level, but as a county we should recognize and be proud to have such talents within our local community.

“James has a wealth of experience and we wish him all the best in his aspirations to feature at the Commonwealth Games.”

The Chatteris man’s hectic schedule is set to continue this weekend, where he will be taking part in the first British Team and UK Championship shoot.
