Goals from Sean White (2) and Jack McLoughlin helped March Town United Reserves finish the season on a high.

The Hares, who reached two cup finals this season, beat Over Sports Reserves 3-1 to finish their NMC 1B campaign in eighth out of 13 teams.

Manager Rich Lorraine, who hung up his boots at the end of last season, came out of retirement to play in the game, said: “Sean White went around the keeper and could have squared it to me but he put it in the goal instead. The other players were giving him stick afterwards. “It was a bit of a laugh. The players are used to me shouting instructions from the sidelines so as soon as I came on they started shouting at me to work harder. I had five opportunities to score and I couldn’t take any of them!

“In the cups I could not have asked for any more from the players. Lady luck was not on our side against Wisbech St Mary (North Cambs Junior Cup). The best player on the pitch was David Jackson and he missed a penalty. The next week, we beat them at the GER.

“In the league, we got 17 points last season. This season we concentrated on bringing through young players and scored 32, and that was with 12 games in April.

“We’ve set the standard now. Next season, we’ll be after more points and a trophy.”

March Town Ladies backed up the previous week’s 3-0 win over Little Paxton with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at second place Sawtry.

As has so often been the case this season, Emma Searle was the scorer.

The Hares got off to a flyer on two minutes when Searle, who has got 15 goals in 16 games, converted an assist from Carly Oakley. Emma Frost also shaved the post. Sawtry equalised on 65 minutes.

The Hares pushed for the win with Oakley having a shot cleared off the line and Rachael Davies’ header going agonisingly wide.

Coates Athletic cemented second in the Peterborough and District League with a 5-2 win at Peterborough Sports Reserves. Liam Harrold hit a hat-trick, with Danny Dance and Rikki Wilmer also on target.

Having picked up the PFA Senior Cup, it has been a great season for Andy Lodge’s men.

Leverington Sports’ Mariusz Kudyba finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 27 goals in 35 games, but for his side it was a difficult campaign. They lost their final game 6-0 at Pinchbeck United and finished bottom of the table.
