SNOOKER ace Joe Perry has praised the impact of the game’s latest tournament after putting in a bold showing during the World Snooker Shoot-Out at the weekend.
The Chatteris star was knocked out in the second round of the tournament, which saw matches decided by a single ten-minute frame with a 20-second shot clock prompting a fast and furious version of the sport.
Perry looked to be in imperious form as he thumped highly-rated Ricky Walden 130-0 in his opening game but a mishit safety shot led to defeat against former World Champion Ken Doherty.
Perry said: “I was disappointed I didn’t go further but one small mistake cost me. I don’t think I missed a single pot. I just paid the price for a botched safety shot. I have actually gone out of the tournament without missing a ball.
“I will be surprised if the tournament’s not run again. There’s definitely room for it. It went down really well and the feedback was brilliant. It has really done snooker a favour.
“You could never do it for ranking points or anything but it’s a way of bringing new people into the game.”
The competition’s shock winner was 45-year-old Nigel Bond, who won his first televised tournament for 14 years to pick up the 32,000 prize.
