Nine-year-old Rex Pooley from March, Cambridgeshire, has won his first race of the season at Paul Fletcher International Kart Circuit.

The PFI is the UK’s largest and most popular circuit, with most British, European and World karting championships being held there.

This is Rex’s first race victory since competing in and winning two national karting championships last year.

Superone is the longest-running kart championship in the UK and is often seen as the most prestigious championship.

Successful alumni include Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Alex Albon, George Russell, Lando Norris and Paul Di Resta, multiple British Touring Car Champion Jason Plato, Formula 1 commentator and former F1 driver David Coulthard.

Rex started racing towards the end of the 2022 season.

Reacting to his win, Rex said: “My favourite race circuit in the UK is the PFI because of the bridge and the chicanes.

“I love racing because of the challenges and the speed, it’s exciting.

“I want to thank Burrowmoor Primary Academy for supporting my hobby which sometimes means I have to take time off school to compete.”

Rex, whose dream is to become a Formula One driver is now hoping to race in the European Series.

“Racing is in the blood,” said his mum, Laura Ann Pooley.

“Rex’s dad Jonathan races on oval circuits with the Grand Prix Midget Cub. He is a nine-time world champion.

“Rex’s grandad Gordon also races with the Grand Prix Midgets and now his brother, Max, 5, will be starting his Bambino kart career next year.”
