ON SUNDAY the Manea Pikers travelled to March to fish the Twenty Foot river and they found the pike in a feeding mood, putting 17 on the scales.Billy Pope came out on top with three fish for 25-13 pounds, his biggest fish weighing 13-08.Drawn on the next peg to Billy was Tom Mitchell who landed four fish for second place and an overall weight of 11-05. Pete Bailey was third with 9-03.This Sunday, the Manea Boys go back to the Twenty Foot at the new footbridge with a 7.30am draw.The March and District Angling Club were in action on Factory Bank and Raveley Drain to take part in the Hajac Winter League.Raveley Drain produced all the leading weights and Stuart Northrop came out on top after landing eight tench and two bream for a winning total of 38 pounds.Stuart was drawn in a section just above the sluice gates and fished worm on a 14 metre pole over a bed of chopped worm and caster.Second place went to March angler Mick Pool who also fished worm over his bed of chopped worm and caster and landed four tench and a couple of skimmer bream for 19-07.Colin Hardman was third with 9-11 and Graham Welton was fourth with 9-10.On the day, Browning Hot Rods came out on top with 11 points and Wades Black were second with 13 points. March Select finished in fifth place and my team, 'The Dropouts', finished in seventh.On Sunday, the final round takes place on the Narrows on the Forty Foot drain (two sections) with one section on Grassmore Bank and the rest on Cock Bank. Anyone wishing to fish should contact me on 07970 673439.On the same day the March club will put a team in the Angling Times Clubman competition, to be fished on Factory Bank at Ramsey.March will face teams from Royston and Ramsey and both draws are at the Marex Inn at Ramsey Mereside at 8am.Also on Sunday, the Mill View Angling Club are in the same competition and fishing against Grebe Angling Club and Littleport Angling Club.The venue for this match is Decoy Lakes and the Mill View team stand a good chance of securing a place in the next round.They have put in plenty of practice and have got one or two of the Decoy regulars in their side.Over at Ramsey on the Forty Foot drain, tench have been feeding well in the narrow section near the Ramsey Forty Foot bridge and last Sunday, the Ramsey Club fished their winter league on this section.The Kilby Brothers took the top two places. Andrew came out on top with 22-13 which included five tench and some roach. His brother Paul had three tench and some roach for second place and Duncan Folkes was third with 13-08.This section of the Forty Foot drain is controlled by Ramsey AC and can be fished on a day ticket which can be purchased on the Bank.Both the Wissey and the cut-off channel at Hilgay are worth a visit as is Raveley Drain. All these venues can be fished on a day ticket.
