MARCH shot putter Dan Tinkler (pictured) has won a gold medal in the South of England Indoor Championships at Brunel University.

Competing in the under-20 age group on Sunday, Dan, 16, produced a superb personal best throw of 15.79m in the first round to beat a strong field and become the Southern Counties under-20 indoor champion.

WHITTLESEY'S Gemma Bays has helped the Peterborough Athletics Club under-13 girls' cross country team to a gold medal at the county championships in St Neots.

This was only the third time Gemma, 13, has run cross country but she produced a fine performance to finish ninth and qualify as the club's first reserve for the national championships in Nottingham in March.

Gemma was joined by Georgie Freeman and Samantha Longman in the gold medal-winning team.

WISBECH athlete Jack Bingley became a county champion for the fourth successive year at the Norfolk Sportshall Athletic County Championships on Saturday.

At the event held at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, Jack won the under-13 boys' speedbounce competition with a personal best score of 76.

In his first season competing in the under-13 age group, Jack also went on to win the bronze medal in the two-lap event.

It turned out to be a great weekend for the Wisbech youngster as he was also in medal-winning form on Sunday.

Representing Ryston Runners at the Keith Ward Annual Indoor Trophy meeting at Lynnsport, Jack won the bronze award in the under-13 boys' 60m hurdles in a personal best time of 12.8 seconds.

He then produced a strong run in the 60m sprint to take silver in a time of 9.4 seconds.
