It takes a special effort to break a club record but March athlete Hannah Lynch not only bettered a club best - she smashed one that had stood for 26 years.

The 14-year-old Neale-Wade Community College student forced Huntingdonshire Athletics Club to re-write their record books after she ran a personal best at an open meeting in Peterborough last week.

Hannah set a personal best of 1:47.3 in the under-15 girls' 600m and, in doing so, took a massive eight seconds off the record set by Jane Ewing.

And she wasn't finished there. At the weekend, Hannah was back in action at another open meeting in Peterborough and she finished first and second in the 800m and 200m respectively.

The youngster is certainly an all-rounder having represented Cambridgeshire in the English Schools Cross Country Championships, in Leeds, last month.

But it is in her favourite event, the 800m, that she is aiming for glory.

Having narrowly missed out on a place in last year's English Schools Championships, Hannah is hoping to qualify successfully this season.

n Hannah, in the green vest, is quite at home running sprints, middle distance or cross country races but it is in the 800m that she hopes to go for English Schools medal success.
