AUSTRALIAN star Matt Wilcox took three catches, three wickets and smashed his highest ever score as March moved within three points of the league leaders.
The 19-year-old all-rounder was in scintillating form to help March beat Nassington by 53 runs to close the gap on Ramsey in the Tucker Gardner Premier Division on Saturday.
Wilcox hit 136 - his first century of the summer - as March finished on 226 all out. The Aussie seamer then took 3-57 and three catches at first slip as March dismissed the visitors for 173.
Wilcox said: “It’s coming together nicely and I’m definitely in the form of my life with the bat.
“It’s the best I’ve ever been hitting the ball and I feel really confident when I’m at the crease. There’s a little bit of pressure on me I guess but I relish that and I enjoy the challenge. I just want to do my best for the team.
“The aim at the start of the year was to help us challenge for the title and that’s still the same but you want to keep setting the bar higher and higher.
“My next goal is to get 150.”
Wilcox and Rob Tombs (52) put on 109 for the third wicket before off-spinner Shardul Brahmbhatt (4-48) and skipper Chris Ringham (3-36) helped March to victory at The Avenue.
Wilcox, who has already hit more than 750 runs this season, said: “Cricket is a team game so I’m not winning games by myself - there were still seven wickets to get and credit has to go to the bowlers for my catches.
“They forced the batsmen to nick it and I was in the right place. It just topped it all off for me on the day but winning the game is the most important thing.
“If you get 100 then it’s great but it’s only brilliant when you’re all buzzing together in the dressing room because you’ve picked up 25 points for a win.”
March travel to basement boys Cambridge Granta II tomorrow.
