THE DOMESTIC stock car and banger season gets underway at King's Lynn's Norfolk Arena on Saturday (6.30pm) and local drivers are just itching to get back out on track!Top lady driver Helen Licquorice, from Leverington, is looking forward to making the most of her time on track in the BangerStox.Helen said: "Paul (Licquorice) has got different racing commitments this year so I won't be able to do all the meetings like I'd like to."She added: "Realistically, I'd like to try and hold onto my blue roof but it will be quite difficult because I will not be competing in any of the two-litre banger meetings."Helen is hoping that she can take the chequered flag on Saturday - something she failed to do last year. She said: "The best I got last year was a third place at Skegness and as of yet I've never won a race at Lynn."I've come close at times but ended up with someone passing me on the last lap or something going wrong with the car."Other Fenland drivers who will be in action in the BangerStox include Wisbech drivers, Shaun McMillan, Andy Lack and Nathan Bowness. The 1300 Stock Cars will also be in action and one driver who is looking forward to getting back in the action is Elm's Richard Hampshire. He said: "I've got a new car for 2006 - a Nova which was built by Lee Green and raced last year by Gary Waters."It finished third in last years Gold Roof Race so I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes."He added: "Last year was my best ever and King's Lynn was my favourite track. I moved over to a Nova midway through the year and that's really when things started to go well."Wisbech's Lee Holmes is making his return to action on Saturday and former Gold Roof Champion Jonathan Upchurch, of March, will be making his first appearance for a year.Current TSR Banger driver Ian Thorpe, from Wisbech, is making the switch to the 1300 stock cars.In the TSR Bangers, Wisbech's Ian Groves will be on the grid and star graders Jason Neal and Darren Barry will be making their first appearance in an individual event for more than a year.Upwell's Mandy Chilvers will be making her racing debut on the grid alongside husband Barry Chilvers and, following a successful debut at Christmas, 16-year-old Holly Atter, from Walpole St Andrew, will be back in action together with her father Malc.
