YOUNG March stock car driver Becky Cowles has certainly got the taste for racing after making her competitive debut at the weekend.

As reported in the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard last week, Becky, 14, made her debut behind the wheel in Skegness on Sunday.

After spending many years watching her father, Robin, race GT Rods and 1300 stock cars, Becky decided to turn the tables and give racing a go herself.

And, after overcoming nerves, Becky, who studies at Neale-Wade Community College, produced an impressive performance. She said: "I was nervous before the race began and I started from the back of the grid so that I could get used to racing."

Despite some near misses with other cars spinning out of the race, Becky moved up the field to finish in a good 10th place.

But she wasn't finished there. On Monday, Becky got back on to the grid to compete in three more races and successfully finish a junior championship race.

She said: "My main aim in all the races was to get the car through safely and avoid any collisions. I had a couple of scary moments but I finished all my races and really enjoyed it.

"I don't think my mum and dad enjoyed it as much as I did but I can't wait to race again."

She added: "People have told me that I am ready to start from the front of the grid so I think I will give that a go next time.
