IT PROVED to be a disappointing weekend for the March Town cricket teams as wet weather and defeats gave them very little to cheer.

Rain put paid to the first team's Tucker Premier game at Nassington on Saturday and the Rutland League Division Two match at Yaxley on Sunday.

March II suffered a narrow one-wicket defeat in their CCA Division One match at home to Horseheath on Saturday.

Following an uncertain start, John Wallis (43), Pat Ringham (23) and Richard Green (44) provided some stability in the middle order and pushed March to a score of 161-8 from 45 overs.

Stuart Mills (5-32) produced a wonderful performance with the ball but his efforts couldn't stop Horseheath holding on to their final wicket and reaching their target after 40.2 overs.

The third team also lost their CCA Junior Division Two match against Fenstanton, at Neale-Wade Community College, on Saturday.

Two early wickets put March on the back foot but Glenn Hulley (36) and Nick Peck (30) helped to propel the home side to 127-6 from 40 overs.

The visitors also lost early wickets but they recovered and hit the winning runs with seven wickets and two overs to spare.
