MARCH Town United manager Brett Whaley is hopeful that his side has learned a valuable lesson ahead of their FA Vase match tomorrow (Saturday).

The Hares began the week well and came away from a difficult trip to Diss Town with a creditable 3-3 draw on Saturday.

However, March were far less convincing on Tuesday evening when they entertained Godmanchester Rovers and Whaley was left disappointed by the 1-1 draw.

He said: "We went into Tuesday's game on the back of two excellent results but the lads thought they could just turn up and win - they were proved wrong.

"Rovers wanted to win far more than we did, particularly in the first half, and they deserved their lead at half-time.

"We improved after the break and we could have easily won the game but a draw was a fair result."

James Richardson's goal earned the Hares a point but the performance was in sharp contrast to Saturday's excellent draw at Diss Town.

An Ashley Brand brace put March 2-0 up at the break and Diss were forced to fight back to level terms before Lewis Leckie put March 3-2 ahead.

Diss hit back with a late equaliser but Whaley was still happy with his team's display. He said: "Diss are a very good side but we pushed them all the way. I was pleased with how we matched them and both sides deserved a point from the game."

Tomorrow (Saturday), March entertain Ridgeons Premier side Woodbridge Town in the FA Vase second qualifying round and the Hares' manager is looking for an improvement.

He said: "We are bound to be inconsistent during the season because we are such a young team.

"The fact that we were below par on Tuesday but still came away with something is positive and I hope that the lads have learned that they must guard against complacency.

"There is no pressure on us in the Woodbridge game and I want to see a positive reaction from the players.

"We know that it will be a big challenge but it will give us an idea of the level of football we aspire to."

There are no fresh injury worries for the March manager and Ben Hepworth will return to the squad.

Whaley has also ruled out any signings in the immediate future. He said: "We are a bit light in defence but we have a great group of lads at the club who are willing to battle for their places.

"I think that a central defender would be a useful addition to the squad but we will be patient and wait to get the right player.
