March Town swept aside bottom club Weston Colville by a nine wicket margin at The Avenue on Saturday to reignite their Tucker League Division Two title credentials, following back-to-back defeats.

In a match reduced to 42 overs per side, March need just 8.4 overs after tea to knock off the 67 runs required. Brandon Phillips, who finished the contest with a straight six, remained unbeaten on 40 and the returning David Hodson was 23 not out.

The only wicket to fall was that of Anthony Palmer, who earlier had been the scourge of the Weston Colville innings with a superb 4-11 spell that reduced the visitors to 35-6 at one stage.

March Town 2nds’ woes continued as they lost by 125 runs away to Buntingford in CCA Senior League Division Two.

The home side closed on 295-3 thanks to a massive 181 not out from Chris Chambers. They scored 122 runs in the final 10 overs despite the efforts of Richard Green, who took 1-37.

Teenager Rob Conyard was the most prolific March batsman with 38, followed by Sam Clarke’s unbeaten 30, in the 170-6 reply.

Poor batting again put the skids under March Town 3rds, who could only muster 47 in their 96-run CCA Junior League Division 2N defeat away to Little Downham.

Skipper Anthony Henson top-scored at No6 with 14 in reply to the home side’s 143 all out. Ryan Wright led the March attack with 4-25.
