IT WAS a case of "anything you can do, I can do better" when brothers Gary and Simon Freear played for Wisbech Cricket Club at the weekend.

Gary's superb innings of 107 in Saturday's Tucker Division One match against Histon set the standard.

However, Simon hit back to score his maiden century for Wisbech I when they travelled to Barnack in the Rutland League on Sunday.

And Gary nearly scored his second ton of the weekend in the same match but finished on 95 not out.

The Freears' efforts steered Wisbech I to an unbeaten weekend and they were unlucky not to beat Histon.

Gary's 107 was most certainly the highlight in the home side's total of 199-9.

And he followed up with a solid bowling performance of 2-32 as Wisbech went for the win.

Craig Johnson (3-43) and Brad Apted (2-19) also took wickets at regular intervals but the visitors held on, scoring 164-9 from 48 overs, and Wisbech had to settle for the draw.

There was no doubt about the result 24 hours later when Wisbech beat Barnack by 127 runs.

Simon (100 not out) and Gary (95 not out) shared a partnership of 190 in the Wisbech total of 241-4.

Any chance of a Barnack response was soon dashed as Orlando Prestidge (3-19) tore through the top order and Dan Mason (4-19) continued the good work to help dismiss the home side for 114 in 36 overs.

Wisbech II took the honours in Sunday's Fenland Trophy match at home to Upwood with a fine all-round display.

The top three Wisbech batsmen all put in good efforts and Adi Peck (40), Declan Smee (39) and Keith Jakings (36) pushed the home side to a solid 176-6.

Six Wisbech bowlers then took wickets but the figures were headed by Gary Alexander (3-17) and Ryan van Waterschoot (2-10) as Upwood were dismissed for 149.

Fine bowling from John Mallett (4-11) was not enough to save Wisbech III from defeat at Heacham in West Norfolk Division Three.

Mallett's performance helped to dismiss the home side for 108 but despite Smee's 29, Wisbech buckled and were bowled out for 83.

Wisbech's third team produced a convincing performance to see off visitors Gooderstone II in West Norfolk Division Four.

Howard Atkins (59) and Oli Brown (27) helped Wisbech to 175 all out and they secured victory thanks to sensational bowling.

Tom Bourne (3-13) and van Waterschoot (3-8) were unstoppable as Gooderstone collapsed to just 42 all out after 35.3 overs.

- Leverington got back to winning ways in West Norfolk Division Two when they convincingly beat The Creakes on Saturday.

The 101-run win came despite Leverington missing five regular first-team players and gives them a chance of achieving promotion.

The visitors rode their luck early on but Robert Bingham and Andy Reid (40) put on 49 for the first wicket before Adam Fairbrother (32 not out) continued the run charge.

Leverington's total of 145-7 set up their bowlers and they took advantage of the tricky pitch.

James Allen began the onslaught with three quick wickets that reduced the home side to 16-3.

Paul Thompson (4-12) then took over as The Creakes collapsed to 30-5.

Damien Allen and Bret Howard continued the good work and dismissed the home side for just 44.

Leverington entertain third-placed Springwood tomorrow and a defeat for either side would rule them out of the promotion race.
