AFTER a solid first-innings performance, Cambridgeshire would have been confident of getting a result against Suffolk in their Minor Counties clash but the game slipped away from them in the second innings.

The three-day match at the Avenue, in March, began on Sunday and the home side got off to a poor start. March Cricket Club's Alan Burton went for a duck and Tom Harvey was dismissed for two as Cambs slumped to 7-2.

Danny Law's 47 put Cambs back on track but it fell to the tail-enders to add some respectability to the home score and a rescue mission from Paul Swannell (38), Summers (44 not out) and Adam Syddall (29) gave Cambs a score of 247.

It was a similar story when Suffolk reached the crease. The visitors were left reeling on 58-4 as Syddall (5-71) and Anderson (4-97) got off to a sparkling start. However, the tailenders dug in and steered Suffolk to 237.

It certainly wasn't a match to remember for Alan Burton as he went for another duck in the second innings and when he was followed by Jones for a single, Cambs were reduced to 6-2.

Nick Ferraby (53), Tom Harvey (38) and Law (23) brought an end to the Suffolk onslaught but this time the visiting bowlers made lighter work of the tail and Cambs were bowled out for 189 - a lead of 199.

Cambs needed early wickets and when Cull went for two it looked promising but it proved to be the only highlight and Huggins' 121 not out and Swallow's 72 not out guided Suffolk to a comfortable nine-wicket victory.
