A farmer from Chatteris is set to represent Great Britain in the Shotgun World Cup in Cyprus later this month.

James Sole will represent his country for the second time after appearing at World Cups and European Championships previously, providing strong performances on each occasion.

James will be hoping to repeat that feat in this year’s competition, providing a strong platform to achieve his longer term aspirations of achieving selection for the European Championships in Italy later on in the year and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 38-year-old has received backing from local business Mick George Ltd who has provided financial support to help him cover the cost of competing overseas.

James Sole spoke of his appreciation: “I am extremely grateful that Mick George Ltd has agreed to sponsor myself for these events and look forward to a very successful partnership. Hopefully this will lead to more success at home and abroad, with international medals the main target at the forthcoming championships.”

The fourth generation farmer, has been shooting targets since the age of 14. At 17, his passion for the sport developed with his first junior national cap. Four years later this was followed up with his first senior cap.

In 2010 James won two team bronze medals at the commonwealth federation championships for England in Delhi. The following year, James won ‘high gun’ at the home nations match before captaining England at the 2012 home nation’s championships.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd, said: “Every year the popularity of this sport seems to grow and James has done remarkably well to represent his country historically, and we’re keen to support his efforts to do so in the future. The county should be proud to have a local businessman competing for his country.”
