Joe Perry’s Masters woes continued after the potter from Chatteris was knocked out by Barry Hawkins in the competition’s first round.
Perry had only won one Masters match prior to his meeting with Hawkins, and his woeful run continued after he lost the final four frames to succumb to a 6-3 defeat yesterday (January 11).
Hawkins won the first two frames with some excellent potting - including a sensational long-range pink in the second frame - but Perry responded and took the next three with solid breaks of 67 and 84.
However, Hawkins fired back with impressive breaks of his own to book his place in the quarter-finals against Mark Allen.
Perry said: “I enjoyed the match but from 3-2 up he froze me out. I didn’t get my composure back after that and it fizzled out for me.”
