Jordan Gill insists his date with destiny can't come soon enough.
The unbeaten Chatteris featherweight star has secured a Commonwealth title shot.
Gill faces champion Ryan Doyle for the prestigious belt at the Copper Box Arena in London on October 27.
And the 24 year-old, known as ‘The Thrill’ is adamant he can extend his perfect 21-fight record to grab the gold.
Gill said: “It’s the right fight at the right time and I know I’ll be ready for it after having prepared to the best of my ability.
“It’s been a long road to get here. It’s great to have an unbeaten record but not everything has gone to plan always.
“I wanted bigger fights quicker, but everything happens for a reason and it’s all about making the most of it now.
“To be the best you have to beat the best and that’s my goal. It’s a potentially career-defining fight and winning the Commonwealth title can put me in the mix to fight for belts at British, European and World levels in the future.”
Manchester fighter Doyle is another class act in the featherweight division, winning 17 of his 20 professional outings and suffering only two defeats.
Doyle won the Commonwealth title in June when causing something of a shock by knocking out the previously unbeaten Reece Bellotti.
The fight against Gill will provide his first defence of the crown – and the local man is determined to ensure it is his last as well.
Gill added: “Doyle is known as a big puncher and he is battle hardened after being in a lot of bigger fights than myself.
“He’s aggressive, he’ll come forward and it will be an exciting 50/50 fight, but it’ one I believe I can win.”
Gill will step up his preparations for the fight with a two-week training camp in Chicago which begins on Wednesday.
Tickets, starting at £40, are available for the fight while supporters’ coaches will be running from Chatteris on the day. Further details from Gill on 01354 695211.
