Sri Lankan star Saranga Rajaguru produced a stunning seven-wicket performance as March Town claimed a second successive Cambs & Hunts Premier League victory last Saturday.
The spinner bagged 7-21 – his best figures for the club to date – in a 64-run triumph at Waresley in Whiting & Partners Division One.
Captain Tyler Phillips was March’s star performer with the bat as he contributed 60 of their 208 runs – a total which looked vulnerable as the hosts reached 108-2 in reply.
However, Rajaguru then set to work as the remaining eight Waresley wickets fell for the addition of just 36 runs as March completed a convincing success.
And it proved to be a day to remember for the club with all four of their Saturday sides in winning form.
Tommy Howgego (85) and Manuj Patel (5-45) were the star performers as the 2nds saw off Cherry Hinton by 34 runs to rise into third place in Division Two of the Cambs Senior League.
James Harradine fell two runs short of a half-centuy as the March men put 250-8 on the board before removing the visitors for 214. Howgego also bagged 2-31.
March 3rds failed to reach three figures with the bat, but still emerged victorious against Needingworth 2nds in the Cambs Junior League.
They responded to being dismissed for 98 by getting rid of their opponents for 89 to triumph by nine runs in the Division Three North clash. Sam Mason, Steve Coe, Shae Pooley and Sam Beresford – the latter from just five deliveries – took two wickets apiece.
And Matthew Powell took centre stage as the 4ths completed a full house for March when cruising to victory at Cottenham 2nds in Division Four North.
Powell helped himself to 5-17 as the eight-man hosts were skittled for 75 – a target the 4ths comfortably eclipsed.
The March first-team have a good opportunity to stretch their winning run to three games this Saturday when hosting rock-bottom Kimbolton – a side yet to win this summer – at The Avenue, 12.30pm.
The 2nds go to Godolphin, the 3rds are at Wilburton 2nds and the 4ths visit Kimbolton 2nds.
