DELIGHTED coach Greg Marsters spoke of his pride after Wisbech Swimming Club pipped heavyweights from across the region to claim one of their best results of the year.

Wisbech’s young stars produced a stunning performance to finish fourth in the National Arena Swimming League’s Division Two Final - one place better than last year.

Marsters said: “This is a quality result and when you consider we finished behind Northampton, Chesterfield and Peterborough, which are very large clubs, it is a massive credit to all our swimmers and everyone involved at the club.

“It is a great shame that we cannot obtain more training time and funding to progress our squad even further.”

Wisbech clocked nine personal bests out of 34 races, while Jack Lane, Ollie Newton and Ben Marsters also smashed club records.

Four of the club’s swimmers were also in good form as they helped Cambridgeshire finish second at the Three Counties Swimming Championship.

Jack Lane won three of his races while Grace Cherry powered to victory in the medley relay.

Hannah Brown took two fourth places and a fifth place and Oliver Newton was presented with his county colours for being selected to swim for the county three times.
