March saw their Cambs & Hunts Premier League season burst into life during a brilliant Bank Holiday weekend.

Tyler Phillips’ side claimed back-to-back Whiting & Partners Division One victories to kickstart their 2018 campaign.

They tasted success for the first time last Saturday when seeing off Foxton by six wickets at The Avenue – and that was swiftly followed by a seven-wicket demolition of rock-bottom Kimbolton on Monday.

Captain Phillips and Matthew Vail were the pick of the March bowlers against Foxton with three wickets apiece as the visitors were dismissed for 164.

The March reply didn’t start to plan as they were reduced to 9-2 following the early departures of openers James Hilliard and Ben Chapman.

But overseas ace Saranga Rajaguru hit a valuable 42 to get them back on track before Ben Pyle (43no) and Phillips (33no) formed an unbroken partnership of 89 to steer them to glory.

And they had no trouble in following up with another smooth victory 48 hours later at Kimbolton.

Sri Lankan ace Rajaguru headlined a fine bowling display with a five-wicket haul as March dismissed their hosts for 122.

Rajaguru finished with figures of 5-43 while captain Phillips and Andrew Wright bagged a couple of wickets each.

Pyle (32no) was again unbeaten at the end of a successful March reply with Ben Chapman (25no) joining him at the crease to complete victory.

March are the on the road again this Saturday when they visit early-season pacesetters Saffron Walden.

The club’s second team were also successful last Saturday when triumphing by 56 runs at Barley in Division Two of the Cambs Senior League.

Nigel Wright (39 and 3-18) was a key contributor with bat and ball. He helped March reach 174 before dismissing their hosts for 118.

Adam Conyard top scored with 45 for the locals while Rob Tombs, Stuart Arnold and Manuj Patel claimed two wickets apiece.

The 3rds came up 46 runs short against Little Downham in Division Three North of the Cambs Junior League despite a fine 94 from Steve Coe. They were dismissed for 156 chasing their hosts’ effort of 202-7.
