MARCH frustrated Wisbech, Doddington pipped March III, Chatteris thrashed Wisbech II and March II hammered Wimblington as Fenland’s cricketers contested a weekend of derbies.

DOGGED resistance from March’s batsmen helped them frustrate high-flying Wisbech by claiming a gritty draw in the Fen derby.

It was hosts Wisbech who dominated Saturday’s clash but a stubborn performance from their neighbours ensured the Tucker Gardner Premier Division title challengers had little to show for their efforts.

James Williams went in search of maximum points by choosing to bat and free-scoring Wisbech were immediately in a commanding position.

Sam Albutt (70), Gary Freear (85) and Jack Hastings (47 not out) powered them to 265-5, before the declaration came after 43 overs. Ryan Meyer took 2-73 for March.

The visitors made a solid start in reply with David Hodson (53) and Meyer (44) taking a cautious approach against spin twins Freear and Craig Johnson.

But after they fell, wickets began to tumble as Jack Hastings (4-13) plagued the middle order.

March were forced to shut up shop and after 53 overs of firm defence, the visitors secured a share of the spoils by closing on 168-8.

• CHATTERIS’ bowlers helped them return to winning ways with an eight-wicket thrashing of Wisbech II.

Pete Munns (3-15), Ant Bamford (2-21), Andy Wool (2-17) and Dom Platt (2-13) combined to skittle Wisbech for 97 - with Danny Haynes (33) and Dom Stannard (28) providing brief resistance.

Kurt Cunningham (47 not out) guided Chatteris home with Lyndon Waters and Ivan Burgess taking the only wickets to fall.

• MARCH II produced a stunning performance to beat title rivals Histon by seven wickets and go top of Cambs Senior Division One.

Toby Nulty (3-24), James Harradine (4-30) and Richard Green (2-27) helped dismiss Histon for 115.

James Hilliard (56), Scott Welcher (22) and Harradine (26 not out) saw March to victory in just 24 overs.

• DODDINGTON pipped March III by 10 runs after Ryan Wright (53), Barrie Carter (51) and Dan Martell (43) helped them reach 199-8.

March closed on 189-9 in reply, with Brett Tinnion (45) and Manuj Patel (39) the main contributors.

• SKIPPER Stuart Mills (3-25) helped dismiss Nassington for just 125 on Sunday - but March failed to knock off the runs.

Ryan Meyer (24), David Hodson (18) and Steve Hinson (13) were the only players to reach double figures in the 24-run defeat.

• OPENER Jake Beart celebrated turning 18 by smashing an unbeaten century to inspire March II to victory over Wimblington in the Fenland Trophy.

Beart toasted his birthday earlier in the week, but he continued to celebrate after hitting 113 off 115 balls as March amassed 225-4.

The teenager then took three catches as James Shepherd (3-24) and Sam Mason (3-18) helped dismiss Wimblington for 115.

• RETURNING batsman Henry Rosier (65) and Sam Darlow (59) helped Wisbech III rack up 225-8 as they beat Chatteris II.

Mark Leach hit 72 in reply but when he fell to 13-year-old debutant Ryan Harnwell, Chatteris’ challenge capitulated. They finished on 162-9 with Harnwell, Craig Pack and Jason Esser claiming two wickets apiece.

Chatteris III were thrashed by 92 runs against Over II.

• NICK Drew’s two wickets and 35 runs were the only things for Wisbech IV to cheer about as they fell to an 82-run defeat against Castor & Ailsworth III.

• TWO depleted Wisbech sides fell to defeat on Sunday with many players absent playing for Wisbech Grammar School.

Only Danny Emmington (26) and Jamie Gollands (23) made double figures as Peterborough Town hammered Wisbech by 10 wickets in the semi-final of the Jack Wilcox Cup.

Jason Esser (3-28) and Laurence Twell (58) impressed for Wisbech II - but they were beaten by 53 runs against Castor & Ailsworth II.
