Former skipper Chris Ringham took the plaudits at The Avenue on Saturday with a five wicket haul - only for March Town’s encounter with Saffron Walden to get washed out bang on the tea break.

By then March had completed their 50 overs in the field, with the left-arm swing bowler taking all five of his wickets from the pavilion end in his second spell, albeit at a cost of 73 runs.

He had the safe hands of Steve Coe to thank on two occasions as other chances went down.

Saffron Walden finished on 256-7, with their Aussie opening batsman James Rushford completing his fifth Whiting & Partners Division One century of the season.

He became the second Aussie in consecutive matches to reach three figures on the March ground and the fourth visiting opener to score a Cambs Premier League ton in a six week period.

Skipper Tyler Phillips cannot be faulted for his efforts, as he went for just 2.4 runs an over in yet another spell where he bowled well with no luck.

The visitors’ running between the wickets from the very start was exceptional as they put on 133 for the opening partnership. That was eventually broken by Tommy Howgego in the 33rd over.

March picked up six bowling points to add to the five points for an abandoned match, but are 37 points adrift of third from bottom Histon. They travel to mid-table outfit Warsley on Saturday (12.30pm).

Rain also halted play in March 2nds and 3rds matches in the CCA.

Rob Tombs took 3-23 as Barley made 182-5 in Senior League Division Two and both Simon Bradshaw and Dan Waltham took three wickets apiece in the Junior League Division Three North match away to Bottisham, who were 151-9.

Elsewhere, rain also interrupted Chatteris’ chase for the title in the Cambs Senior Division One.

The local lads had done well to restrict opponents Fulbourn Institute to 138-8, with bowlers Anthony Bamford (2-9) and Jake Kaval (2-22) impressing.

Chatteris, who sit in third in the league standings, take on Cambridge NCI this weekend (1pm).

In the Junior Division Two North, Wimblington were halted by the rain at 20-2 in their meeting with Cambridge NCI 2nds.
