IT was a miserable weekend for batsmen as both March and Wisbech first teams fell to Tucker Gardner Premier Division defeats.

MARCH TOWN CRICKET CLUB

• MARCH were bowled out for less than 100 for the third time in five league games as they crashed to a 111-run drubbing at Foxton.

The league leaders racked up 202-7, with captain Chris Ringham and Australian Ryan Meyer claiming two wickets each for March.

Left-arm spinner James Harradine continued his fine form with the ball, bowling seven maidens in a spell of 1-29 off 16 overs.

But another batting collapse meant March were shot out for a lowly 91 in reply, with Matty Vail’s 22 the top score.

• NUMBER nine Richard Green held his nerve to secure back-to-back wins for March II with 10 balls to spare.

The spinner hit a quickfire 17 not out and combined with Nathan Oliver (16 not out) to see March to the three-wicket victory over Kimbolton.

Rob Moden (25), David Haslegrave (23) and debutant Josh Cother (22) also chipped in as March overhauled Kimbolton’s total of 136-4.

• MATT Hubbard, Stuart Fox and Lewis Hilliard claimed two wickets apiece as March III thrashed nine-man Haddenham by seven wickets.

Anthony Henson (42) and Jamie Stimpson (19) helped March cruise past Haddenham’s total of 70 all out.

• MARCH went fourth in Rutland Division One with a 27-run victory over Bourne on Sunday.

David Haslegrave (37), Ben Pyle (27) and Scott Welcher (24) helped March post 158 before three wickets each for skipper Stuart Mills and spinner Ryan Meyer saw Bourne fold for 131.

• MARCH’S opening stand was higher than Somersham’s eventual total on Sunday as the second team recorded a 93-run win in the Fenland Trophy.

Nathan Foad (40) and Stephen Wallis (22) put on 71 for the first wicket as March posted 144. Youngsters Sam Mason and Ashely Payne grabbed three wickets each as Somersham were skittled for 51 in reply.

WISBECH TOWN CRICKET CLUB

• WISBECH’S winning run in the Tucker Gardner Premier Division was halted as they were shot out for 107 on a damp wicket at Camden.

Spinners Gary Freear (3-32) and Craig Johnson (3-25) looked to have put in-form Wisbech in control as Camden were restricted to 139 all out.

But only four players reached double figures in Wisbech’s lowly reply, with David Wood’s 28 the top score.

• OPENER Danny Emmington hit a classy 68 but Wisbech II fell to a 14-run defeat against Bluntisham.

Laurence Twell (15) was the only other batsman to make double figures as Wisbech fell short. Matthew Parrin had earlier taken 5-29 as Bluntisham were dismissed for 136.

• WISBECH III looked to have wrapped up a resounding win over 10-man Needingworth - but a dramatic batting collapse saw them fall to a three-run defeat.

Opener Shane Sleath’s 68 saw Wisbech cruising at 90-1 but, with Ollie Short (12) and Sam Darlow (13) the only other players to reach double figures and Gary Alexander unable to bat due to a dislocated shoulder, Wisbech fell agonisingly short.

Ryan Van Waterschoot had earlier taken 3-17 as Needingworth posted 127.

• FOUR wickets for Zak Brown and fine knocks from Simon Freear (72) and James Williams (42) helped Wisbech beat Newborough by eight wickets in Rutland Division Two.

• SAM Darlow’s 73 not out helped Wisbech II beat Kettering by 43 runs on Sunday. Harrison Smith (4-20) and Ryan Van Waterschoot (3-16) did the damage with the ball.

• EXTRAS top-scored for Wimblington on Sunday as Wisbech III shot them out for a miserable 57.

Openers Muhammad Niaz (4-19) and Harry Johnson (4-18) skittled the top order, with the 28 extras making up almost half of the Wimblington total.

Matt Dawson (20 not out) and Tom Culshaw (28) eased Wisbech to an eight-wicket win.
