Cricket round-up: March’s seamers inspire precious win ahead of Seymour’s return

• MARCH Town’s seamers bowled their side to a valuable victory on Saturday - and things could get even better this week as Australian star Steve Seymour returns.

The all-rounder, who starred at The Avenue in the 2008/09 seasons, will bolster March’s ranks for their trip to struggling Saffron Walden II on Saturday.

He will join up with a buoyant squad after the first team claimed a 42-run win over Castor & Ailsworth.

Tyler Phillips (31), returning from a back injury, and Josh Jackman (19) put on 51 for the eighth wicket to help March to a modest 122.

Jackman (4-30), Phillips (2-22) and Callum Young (4-22) then combined to skittle Castor for just 80.

• RAIN frustrated Wisbech Town as their top-of-the-table showdown with leaders Foxton was washed out. James Williams’ side travel to Castor & Ailsworth on Saturday.

• WISBECH won the battle of the third and fourth teams to claim bragging rights over rivals March.

Brodie Ellis (4-22) and Lyndon Waters (3-17) helped Wisbech III dismiss March III for 142 on Saturday, with James Beresford (29) and James Shepherd (30) top-scoring.

Paul Strickle struck an unbeaten (44 not out) to see Wisbech to a five-wicket win.

Meanwhile, Dean Dodman’s 81 set Wisbech IV on the way to a 149-run stuffing of March IV. His knock helped Wisbech post 191, with Glen Hulley taking six wickets.

March folded for just 42 in reply, with Tyla Moore (4-8) and Harrison Smith (3-13) the chief destroyers.

• MARCH’S young stars impressed as the annual Chairman’s XI v President’s XI clash finished as a draw on Sunday.

Josh Fox and Nathan Oliver put in eye-catching performances with the ball after Rob Moden (82) had produced the best knock of the day.

• GOOD knocks from March’s Pat Ringham and Wisbech’s Stuart Unwin helped Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Over-60s beat Suffolk by eight wickets.

Ringham (35) and Unwin (36 not out) offered good support to Nick Andrews, whose unbeaten 114 inspired the victory.
