MARCH Town were handed new shirts by their sponsors - but that was as good as their Saturday got as they crumbled to a 79-run defeat against St Ives.

Former captain Jody Betts, representing sponsors Maxey Grounds & Co, presented the kit to the only other March skipper to have lifted the Tucker Gardner Premier Division trophy - Chris Ringham.

But things quickly took a turn for the worse at the Avenue as St Ives chose to bat and started brightly.

Spinners James Harradine (5-62) and Ryan Meyer (3-42) hit back for March to restrict the visitors to 186-9 off their 48 overs. But, for the second consecutive week, March’s batsmen were blown away.

The hosts looked well set when Meyer (26) and Harradine (26) were at the crease but wickets soon began to tumble and March were dismissed for 107.

• WISBECH Town’s sparkling form reached new heights on Saturday as they beat reigning champions Ramsey by four wickets.

Spinners Craig Johnson (4-63) and Gary Freear (3-45) were the pick of the bowlers as Ramsey posted 193-9.

Freear (77) got good support from Jack Hastings (46) and David Wood (20) as Wisbech won with 13 balls to spare.

• HALF centuries from Danny Emmington, Dom Stannard and Matt Esser guided Wisbech II to a 94-run win over Yelling.

Emmington (58), Stannard (77 not out), Esser (60) and Carl Pope (49) all cashed in on the Yelling bowling attack as Wisbech amassed 268-4.

Matthew Parrin then produced another inspired performance with the ball, taking 5-25 as Yelling were dismissed for 174.

• SEAMER Callum Young took a career best 7-28 as March thrashed Peterborough Town in Rutland Division One on Sunday.

Young and Andy Wright (3-17) skittled Peterborough for just 77 before Ryan Meyer (42 not out) and Ben Pyle (28) eased March to a seven-wicket win.

• GARY Freear’s six-wicket haul inspired Wisbech to a seven-wicket win over Medbourne in Rutland Division Two on Sunday.

Freear took 6-57 before Danny Haynes (44) and Carl Pope (65 not out) helped Wisbech overhaul Medbourne’s 147 all out.

• CENTURION Kurt Cunningham continued the brutal batting that helped Chatteris get promoted last season to inspire them to a 143-run victory over Girton.

Cunningham (142 not out) smashed more than half of Chatteris’ runs as they posted 227-6. Joe Menarry (4-44), Andrew Wool (3-13) and Ant Palmer (2-16) helped skittle Girton for 84 and put Chatteris joint top of Cambs Senior Division Two.

• MARCH II suffered a narrow 15-run defeat to Fulbourn.

Ben Pyle (4-35) and Richard Green (2-41) helped restrict Fulbourn to 191-7 but knocks from Callum Young (43 not out) and skipper Rob Moden (41) were not enough to get March home.

• BROTHERS Lewis and James Hilliard helped high-flying March IV to a nine-wicket win over Witcham.

Lewis (5-28) helped bowl Witcham out for 130 before James (40 not out) and Daniel Woods (77 not out) knocked them off.

• GOOD knocks from John Mallett (39 not out) and Ollie Short (30), and three wickets from Brodie Ellis were not enough to prevent Wisbech III falling to a five-wicket defeat against Haddenham.

• SHANE Sleath’s 63 not out couldn’t prevent Wisbech II falling to a 118-run thrashing against Eaton Socon on Sunday.

• THREE wickets and 45 runs from Mark Leach helped Chatteris II to a 51-run victory over Wimblington on Saturday but the thirds fell to an eight-wicket defeat against Over II.

• A BLISTERING 105 not out from Matty Hollis couldn’t prevent Chatteris III from defeat at Abington on Sunday but Harry Matthews’ six-wicket haul helped the club see off Doddington by nine-wickets in the Fenland Trophy.
