FRUSTRATED March Town United boss Paul Crosbie admitted his players were the architects of their own downfall during Tuesday’s 5-1 Fen Derby thrashing against Wisbech Town.
While impressive in patches, the Hares handed the Cambs Invitation Cup quarter-final clash to their Fen rivals with a flurry of mistakes.
“It’s frustrating,” said Crosbie. “For the third time this year we just haven’t turned up against Wisbech.
“Steve Appleby (Wisbech boss) might disagree but we’ve handed them five goals and you can’t do that against a team like Wisbech.
“We have been the architects of our own downfall.”
The defeat means March have shipped 17 goals against the Fenmen in three derbies this season, scoring just two.
“Beating Wisbech is not the be all and end all but it would be nice,” said Crosbie. “It would also be nice not to be losing 17 goals to two on aggregate over three games!
“But aspirations at the two clubs are very different and if anybody thinks otherwise they are misguided.
“We’re heading in the right direction and I believe this squad will have a successful second half of the season.”
The Hares were missing Ash Spendelow, Michael Anker and Josh Westley for Tuesday’s loss - but Lewis Thompson was fit enough for a place on the bench.
The midfielder is back in training and hopes to play despite his persistent knee injury, which will require another operation in April.
March travel to Halstead Town in the Thurlow Nunn First Division on Saturday.
