Kurt Cunningham’s magnificent 139 not out set the platform for Chatteris to beat neighbours March II by 75 runs in a Fen derby.

Cunningham received support from Matt Hollis (55) and Ben Hollis (33) as Chatteris made 281-6 off 45 overs.

Stuart Fox performed well to finish his 12 overs with 2-34.

March went out to bat knowing that they had to get off to a good start. Openers Steven Hinson (25) and Nathan Oliver (43) were going at nearly six an over until Hinson fell to Archie Palmer, another player coming up from the seconds and performing well.

Dan Martell top scored with 70 but March finished on 205-6. Notable bowling contributions came from Andrew Wool (2-33) and Archie Palmer (2-61).

Chatteris captain Anthony Palmer says: “I was at a wedding for this game but I am delighted with the result.

“A fantastic knock from Kurt and it was nice to see Matt Hollis score some runs as I know he can score a lot more than he does.

“I am very happy for young Ben Hollis and Archie Palmer who came up from the second XI as we had a few missing and performed well by contributing to a good win.

“It shows that we have players in the second XI that we can call up and still have a strong team.”

James Fraser became the second Chatteris player on the day to score an unbeaten century against March - this time for Chatteris II in the four wicket win against March III.

The opening batsman had hit an unbeaten 103 before he had to leave the field for work - Chatteris II cruising to 200-6 in just 34 overs. Michael Saunders made 42.

James Shepherd picked up 3-41 and young leg-spinner Rob Conyard 2-15.

Earlier, Steven Coe top-scored (37) followed by Sam Clarke (31), skipper Anthony Henson (21) and Ben Watson (17) in March III’s 199 all out.

Michael Hill (4-27), Jake Kaval (2-29), Scott Walton (2-29) and James Fraser (2-36) were in the wickets.
