CAMBRIDGESHIRE players have figured strongly in the Lakeside World Darts Championship this week.On Wednesday, Martin Adams produced one of the greatest comebacks ever seen on the Lakeside stage when he beat Leeds' Martin Atkins 4-3.The Yorkshireman produced superb darts to win the first three sets and it looked bleak for 'Wolfie' Adams. However, Adams won the fourth set and produced a 161 check-out and a 13-dart finish to win the first two legs of the fifth.Atkins fought back to win the next two legs but in the decider, 'The Assassin' missed a double top to win the match and Adams took advantage.Six straight legs completed the extraordinary comeback and Adams secured his place in tonight's quarter-final where he faces Scotland's Mike Veitch. Veitch progressed thanks to a 4-2 victory over Wisbech Tarmac layer, Steve Roberts, 48, who was unable to reproduce the superb form he showed in his surprise victory over John 'Boy' Walton. Both players got off to a slow start but it was Veitch who took the first two sets.Qualifier Roberts, appearing in his first World Championships, dug in to win the next two sets before Veitch put himself on the brink of victory to win the fifth set 3-0.Again Roberts came back to level the match with a bull finish in the sixth, but Veitch took the deciding set to win 4-3.Last night, Cambridgeshire's Shaun Greatbatch faced another Scot, Paul Hanvidge for a place in the semi-finals.Greatbatch booked his quarter-final place thanks to a 4-2 win over Dane Per Laursen.
