Delighted Cunningham brothers join forces to inspire table-topping Chatteris Cricket Club

CRICKETING brothers Kurt and Connor Cunningham have spoken of their delight after joining forces at Chatteris to power their home-town club to the top of the league.
Opening batsman Kurt has been in mesmerising form this season, smashing three unbeaten centuries on his way to a total of 556 runs in seven league games. The 20-year-old has only been out twice all season and boasts an incredible average of 228.
Younger brother Connor, 18, who also plays for Northamptonshire Premier Division side Peterborough Town, has recently returned to play for Chatteris on Saturdays.
Kurt said: “We grew up playing together so it’s great to do it again. I’m more nervous batting though, because I don’t want him to get out.
“The club means a lot to me and Connor. In the last couple of seasons we have been really close to promotion but missed out. Our luck has to change this year - we deserve it.
“I have never had a start to the season like this one. Before I used to get nervous but now I try and relax when I bat. Connor helps me do that.
“It’s useful to see him bashing it everywhere as it eases the pressure on me. We are similar players in that we both love to take the attack to bowlers.”
Fellow opening batsman Connor has scored two half-centuries in three games since returning to Chatteris, who have cruised to the top of Cambs Senior Division Three with six consecutive victories.
He said: “We both want to do well and we’re happy for each other when we do. Kurt is in fantastic form - no batsman likes getting out but his record this season is ridiculous.

“I have a good time at Chatteris and I’m there to enjoy my cricket again. Playing for county and Peterborough is a serious commitment and so it’s good to come back.
“They are top people and that’s helping us do well as a team. Chatteris shouldn’t be in that league - we are better than that. We need to be a league up and if we play like we are then it’s inevitable. I think we could even go up two or three leagues.”
Chatteris continue their promotion push tomorrow against Eversden.
