THERE was the upset of the season in the March and District League in the Elsie German Cup semi-final when Conservative C defeated CWMC. The two teams could not have been further apart in the league table.CWMC held a 4-2 lead but, in a tense finish, the Conservatives took the last three games for victory. The Conservative pair of Maureen Wright and Bill Ringham were undefeated.In Section One of the league, the two top teams were involved in 8-1 scorelines. CWMC enjoyed a field day away to the George where Barry Salter/Michael Wayman didn't lose a leg and Dave Atherton/Spot Wayman were also undefeated.However, MTFSC were trounced by a similar margin at Conservatives B. Bill Hudson/Dave Clarke and Peter Barnes/Ian Fulcher were undefeated for the Conservatives.Three wins for the Parkfield pair of Angela King/John Brandon at home to Buffs B, helped to secure a victory for the Wimblington side, who remain stuck at the bottom of the table.Legion are the new Section Two champions. They have establised a six-point lead with only two matches to play.Their latest victims were Buffs C by 5-4. The Legion pair of Ivan Coomber/Basil Britchford were undefeated.However, Buffs C remain in touch of runner-up place along with USC and GER A, who met one another at the USC. GER A were victorious 5-4.
