AROUND 1,000 motorsport fans packed a field in Manea on Sunday to watch the final round of this season’s Wisbech and District Kart Racing Club Championship.

The club’s last grass meeting of 2011 was held in front of a bumper crowd much to the delight of committee member Steve Hensby who had urged people to support the club.

And as seven classes battled it out for valuable points the action-packed racing kept visitors entertained for around six hours in unusually dry October conditions.

Luke Manders, 125cc Four Stroke Junior championship leader going into the event, triumphed on the day but will have to wait till all results are verified at a committee meeting next week to see if he has won the championship.

Harry Hensby, second-placed in the standings, followed him across the line. Josh Smith was third.
