PETERBOROUGH Athletics Club will go into the East Anglian finals this weekend on the back of an encouraging result in the Eastern Young Athletes League Plate final.

The club were missing several athletes but once again, Fenland's youngsters were on form to guide Peterborough to fourth place.

March middle distance specialist Nicholas Stone won the B string under-15 1,500m in a time of 4:57.8 and then threw 6.14m to finish fourth in the shot.

Fellow March runner Stephen Lattimore earned valuable points with runs of 14.50 and 30.30 in the under-15 100m and 200m. He then helped the relay team to a fine second place finish.

Peter Godly ran 15.80 in the under-15 80m hurdles and then set a personal best to finish third in the high jump with a leap of 1.35m. Peter then jumped 3.51m in the long jump.

Martin Tinkler was in winning form again when he recorded 15.37m in the under-17 shot and he also claimed victory in the javelin with a throw of 45.7m.

Martin's haul of points continued when he came second in the discus with 42.40m.

Younger brother Roger also performed well in the field to finish third in the B string under-17 shot with 9.43m.

Tom Paddock earned fourth place in the under-15 discus with 12.18m. He then competed in the 100m and 400m to boost the Peterborough points tally.

Sharon Knowles, of Pondersbridge, won the B string under-17 long jump with a fine 4.06m and finished third in the 100m with a run of 14.10.

Sophie Lambert finished fifth in the B string under-13 800m while Amber Kenny set a personal best of 6.32m in the shot and threw 12.29m in the discus.

Amber's older sister Charlotte earned top-four places in the 1,500m (6:10.80) and discus (10.05m) before finishing fifth in the javelin with 5.80m.

Bethan Saunders continued her excellent season with a winning time of 2:31.50 in the under-17 800m and a second place 46.30 in the 300m.

Laura Arnold won the under-15 800m with a run of 2:39.90 and crossed the line in fourth after running 47.80 in the 300m.

Despite still suffering with a foot injury, Gemma Bays battled for valuable points by recording 5.35m in the B string under-15 shot.
