WISBECH Town brought their poor run of league form to an end on Saturday thanks to a late winner from Stuart Cobb.

Cobb's goal four minutes from time gave Wisbech a welcome 1-0 win at Diss Town and brought the team their first win in five outings.

The victory also ended a three-game losing run in the Ridgeons Premier, and gave the Fenmen's defence their first clean sheet since the Boxing Day match at King's Lynn Reserves.

Once again, injuries forced manager Dick Creasey to shuffle his side and with Danny Hussey pulling up with a hamstring injury in the first half, the Wisbech boss has fresh worries ahead of the trip to Kirkley tomorrow (Saturday).

Former Wisbech midfielder Mark Angel was the pick of the Diss players but skipper Steve Appleby produced an outstanding performance in the heart of the visitors' solid defence.

Creasey said: "It wasn't the most entertaining game but the lads put in a battling performance.

"I asked the lads to roll their sleeves up and do everything they could to get a result. We deserved the points and Stuart's goal came at a great time in the game."

Creasey will be hoping that the victory will kick-start his team's season and improve their chances of a top-six finish.

He said: "Wherever we finish this season, I will be disappointed. We have to look at the example set by Wroxham this year after they were disappointing last season.

"They turned things around and only brought in a few new players. We will have to do the same in the summer."

Injuries and unavailable players have forced Creasey into bringing in loan players ahead of tomorrow's game. He said: "I hope to have two players with us by the weekend."

Darren Jimson missed training on Tuesday and is unlikely to play tomorrow. Martin McNeil is suspended and Adam Weston is doubtful with a back injury.

According to Creasey, Andy Lodge, Liam Nimmo and Danny Hussey "have a chance of playing". He added: "I won't know what the team will be until Friday or Saturday morning."

The Fenmen manager also has to consider a re-arranged cup fixture after Tuesday's Cambs Invitation Cup semi-final at Soham Town Rangers was postponed.
