IT SEEMS that Fenland is set for a bright future in gymnastics, judging by the number of youngsters who attended the West Walton Community Gymnastics Club taster session on Saturday.

More than 80 children attended the event at The Queen's School, Wisbech, and almost all of them have now signed up to join the rapidly expanding club.

Club coach Kirstie Harrison said: "It was a very enjoyable day and everyone who took part seemed to have lots of fun.

"I was absolutely shattered by the end of the day but we are absolutely delighted with the number of children who took part and it has boosted our membership to well over 120."

Children came from all over Fenland to try their hand at the sport and more experienced gymnasts were on hand to help them enjoy the thrills and spills.

The club will now begin formal gymnastics training tomorrow (Saturday) at its new home at The Queen's School and this will continue every Saturday.

Training will be split into classes designed for various ability levels.

Beginners will train from 10am to 11.30am and more experienced gymnasts will take part in the classes that run from 11.30am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm.

The club still has places available for pre-school and five and six-year-old children who wish to take up gymnastics.
