LAST week's heavy rain helped to freshen the lakes and rivers and the fish were feeding well during another warm weekend.

Mill View Angling Club were fishing the Horseshoe Lake at the Decoy Complex, near Whittlesey, on Sunday and the top three anglers all broke the 100lb barrier.

Des Proud led the way with a total catch of 112lb of carp.

Fenland Rods Angling Club also found the fish in a feeding mood at the Magpie Lake, on the Rookery Complex, over at Pidley.

Tim Bates took top spot with 86lb of carp to 3lb, all of which were taken using pellet as hook bait. Tim was followed by his son, Alex, who landed 68-12.

The Wimblington Club were fishing at Townsend Lakes, Outwell, on Sunday and Jeff Gray hooked a 10-05 carp in his winning total of 33-08.

It is worth noting that the Wimblington Club no longer have fishing rights at Pearson Farm.

On Sunday, Townsend Angling Club were on the Silver Fish Lake, at Kingsland Reservoir, but the fish weren't very hungry and Denis Ward needed only 36-14 to win. Weights in excess of 100lb were common at this venue the week before and Pat North landed 102lb of tench and bream last Wednesday.

Barry Mason won last week's evening match at the Pool, Fields End Water, Doddington after he netted a total of 58-10.

In other results from the Pool, Simon Easy recorded a total of 82- 04 to head the field in the Cambridge Albion Club match, on Sunday, while Mick Evershed battled against windy conditions to land

38-01 and win the senior citizens match.

Fishing on the rivers has been patchy. On Saturday Barry Linney landed eight tench to 6lb and lost seven more at Welches Dam, on the Old Bedford.

The following day, the Manea Club fished their match at the same venue and the 12 anglers hooked one only tench between them. This was netted by Steve Newell, who also netted small rudd to win with a total of 7lb.

The Old Nene, in March, has been fishing well with plenty of skimmers to be found and some bigger fish above the bypass bridge.

Thirty pounds of bream was needed to win the Ramsey Club match last Sunday and there were some good back-up weights.

Bream, together with the odd tench, were also showing on the Sixteen Foot, where the best area seems to be Cottens Corner.

March juniors braved the storms to fish their weekly match last Wednesday and Jake Stockbridge took the honours with 2lb of skimmers.
