Chairman White revelling as boss of March Town United’s silverware-chasing reserves

DESPITE an injury-crisis ending the first team’s hunt for promotion it hasn’t been all doom and gloom for March Town United this year.
The club’s reserve side - led by Hares chairman Phil White - are chasing silverware on two fronts. They have a two-point lead in the Cambs BIS 1B League and reached the final of the Junior Challenge Cup on Saturday.
White, who stepped-in after reserves boss Steve Wilson left the area in November, is delighted with the side’s progress under his control.
He said: “When I stepped in we couldn’t get a side together so we aimed to get ourselves to mid-table.
“I’m over the moon with how things have gone but it’s all down to the players really. The guys are doing us proud but when you look around the changing room we’ve got a great side.
“I don’t want to be big headed but when teams play us it’s like a cup final for them because we’re a good footballing side and top of the league.
“We want to win the title and the cup - but if we slipped down to mid-table and lost in the final I’d still be proud of what we’ve achieved this season.”
White’s son, Lee, bagged a brace in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Great Chishill. The side will face either Elsworth or Cambridge University Press Reserves in April’s final.
Phil White said: “I know he’s my boy but Lee’s been playing out of his skin and scoring goals for fun since he joined.
“Putting my chairman’s hat on Jamie Weston’s (first team boss) done a phenomenal job considering the injuries he’s had but the lads who have stepped-up from the reserves have done well.
“Players like Phil Kowbas and Vinny Edwards are doing the business for me now they’re playing regularly too. The club’s really moving forward.”
It was also a good weekend for March’s first team who drew 0-0 at Thetford Town on Saturday to end their four-game losing streak.
